Amy & Ella
Founders of Kids Against Plastic | Authors
Amy and Ella’s mission to ‘make a difference’ started out as a home-school project and has since become an award-winning charity – Kids Against Plastic. Over the last four years, Amy (17) and Ella (14) have inspired and motivated children, politicians, academics, individuals, families, schools, cafes and business leaders to become more discerning users of single-use plastic – or to become ‘Plastic Clever’. Their Plastic Clever Award has been adopted by businesses and over 900 schools across the U.K. As well as giving many school talks and their own TEDx lecture in 2018, the girls have spoken at international events, most notably the Young Activists Summit at the United Nations in December 2019. Perhaps best of all though they are still working towards their own individual goal of collecting 100,000 pieces of plastic litter – so far it’s 75,000 and counting! In June 2020 Dorling Kindersley published the girls’ first book Be Plastic Clever – written by kids, for kids. Through their campaigning, activism and work with the Educational Wealth Fund they hope to inspire other young people to find, and use, their voices to bring about positive changes.
